Music Biz 101 - Split Sheets

Split sheets determine who owns what in a song. If there is 1 producer and 1 writer, the usual split is 50/50. Determining the percentage split of a song is the responsibility of its creators. The percentage split of the ownership of a song with 2 producers and 3 recording artists will be different than a split on a song that has 1 producer and 2 recording artists.

It is important that you fill out these sheets as soon as possible. I recommend filling these out in the studio at the moment the last artist finishes recording their vocals. Doing this will save you a lot of future headaches. Completing split sheets while still in the studio will prevent someone in your team from stabbing you in the back in the future.
